✔ Used to treat Premature Ejaculation
✔ Reduces sensitivity to delay ejaculation
✔ Highly effective – works in less than 30 minutes
EMLA Cream contains the active ingredients Lidocaine and Prilocaine, which are both local anaesthetics.
EMLA works by temporarily blocking the stimulation of pain receptors in the area where it is applied. When applied to the penile region, it causes a reduction in sensitivity, enabling the user to delay ejaculation and prolong the sexual intercourse period.
Before using EMLA, you should read the manufacturer’s printed Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) from inside the pack. It will give you more information and provide you with a full list of the side effects which you may experience.
Apply a small, pea-sized amount of EMLA Cream to the underside of the penis near the frenulum (often referred to as the ‘banjo string’) about 15-30 minutes before sexual activity. Allow the cream to absorb for 10 to 15 minutes, then thoroughly wipe off any excess before intercourse to ensure that it does not rub off on your partner. You can apply a further pea-sized dose of the cream across the head of the penis if you do not feel it working.
EMLA is intended for use on intact skin only and should not be applied to grazes, wounds, or areas affected by a rash.
Please note that using EMLA to delay Premature Ejaculation is considered an ‘off-label’ use of the product.
Using a medication ‘off-label’ means that the medicine is being used in a manner that differs from the guidelines set out in the product license. It does not mean that the medicine is unsafe for use. For example, EMLA Cream has been licensed for anaesthesia before injections and minor skin conditions, but has also been prescribed ‘off-label’ to help delay Premature Ejaculation for many years.
Along with their useful effects, most medicines can cause unwanted side effects although not everyone experiences them. The unwanted effects often improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine, but please speak with your doctor or pharmacist if they continue or become troublesome.
Below is a list of the most common and the most serious side effects associated with EMLA. You will find a full list of possible side effects in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) supplied with your medicine.
A mild reaction (paleness or redness of the skin, slight puffiness, initial burning or itching) may occur on the area on which EMLA is used. These are normal reactions to the cream and the anaesthetics and will disappear in a short while without any measures being needed.
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)

Please tell the prescriber if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. This is because EMLA can affect the way some medicines work, and some medicines can have an effect on EMLA. In the event of a medical emergency, you should tell your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse that you have used EMLA and when you did. Do not use EMLA with other medicines unless your doctor tells you that you can.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following medicines:
