What is Invicorp and how does it work?

Invicorp is a specialist-initiated injectable treatment used in the management of moderate to severe Erectile Dysfunction (ED), particularly in cases where other therapies – such as oral PDE5 inhibitors or Alprostadil – have proven ineffective or poorly tolerated.

Invicorp contains two active ingredients: Aviptadil and Phentolamine.

Aviptadil is a synthetic form of Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP), a naturally occurring polypeptide that relaxes blood vessels and enhances blood flow to the penis. Phentolamine is an alpha-blocker that further promotes vasodilation by relaxing vascular smooth muscle.

Together, these agents work synergistically to improve penile blood flow, resulting in the development and maintenance of an erection.

Invicorp works rapidly following sexual stimulation to produce an erection – often within as little as 5 minutes, and for most men, within 10 minutes. After ejaculation, the erection typically subsides naturally. With further sexual stimulation, another erection may be possible.

Clinical data shows that over 80% of men achieve an erection suitable for intercourse with Invicorp. Around 75% of men who discontinued other erectile dysfunction treatments due to poor results responded successfully to Invicorp.

Unlike other intracavernosal injections such as Alprostadil, Invicorp is rarely associated with post-injection penile pain or discomfort. Studies show that significantly fewer patients experience moderate or severe side effects with Invicorp compared to Alprostadil.

Please note that this product requires careful medical supervision and takes practice to use correctly. It is a prerequisite requirement that you have been trained how to use Invicorp by a healthcare professional before placing an order. The initial prescribing of Invicorp must be made by a specialist, such as a urologist. Ongoing treatment may then be continued by a GP or another qualified prescriber where clinically appropriate.

Additional Information

How do I use Invicorp?

Invicorp is available from PrescriptionPad as an intracavernosal injection containing Aviptadil 25mcg & Phentolamine 2mg.

Before using Invicorp at home, you must be taught how to prepare and inject it by your doctor or another healthcare professional. You should never start treatment without talking to your clinician first. If you find it difficult to use your hands properly or if you cannot see very well, your partner can be taught how to give you the injection. Discuss this with your clinician if necessary.

Your first injection will be given to you by a doctor or nurse, although after proper training and instruction you will be able to do it yourself at home. It is important that you ask if you are unsure about any of the instructions you are given. Do not try to use the injection until you have learnt the correct way to administer it, if you can’t remember what to do, see your trainer again.

Before using Invicorp, you should read the manufacturer’s printed Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) from inside the pack. It will give you more information about Invicorp including detailed instructions of how to prepare and inject it.

You should inject Invicorp about 5-10 minutes before sexual activity. The effects usually begin within this timeframe and normally last for up to an hour. If your erection lasts for between 2-4 hours, discuss this with your doctor. If it lasts for longer than 4 hours, contact your doctor immediately.

You should never use Invicorp more than once per day and must not use it more than three times in one week.

Each ampoule contains the correct amount for a single injection. You should inject the whole of the contents of the ampoule.

Invicorp can be brought to room temperature before use, or it can be used directly from the refrigerator. You should use the injection within 24 hours of taking the ampoule out of the refrigerator.

Each time you administer an injection, alternate the side of the penis and vary the injection site slightly. This helps minimise the risk of tissue damage or bruising. Ensure visible veins and the urinary tract are avoided.

Never use, or try to straighten, an injection which has a bent or broken needle. If you discover a bent needle, discard the injection and select a new one.

Make sure you follow the instructions in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) for disposing of used injections or applicators.

You should not use Invicorp if you are using any other products or taking any other medicines to treat Erectile Dysfunction.

If Invicorp does not help you to get an erection or if your erection does not last long enough for satisfactory sexual intercourse, you should inform your doctor.

If you use more Invicorp than you should, immediately contact the nearest hospital emergency department or your doctor. Using too much Invicorp can increase your risk of scarring to the penis and can cause your erection to last too long which may require treatment by a specialist doctor to reverse the effects.

Administration Instructions

These instructions are designed to give you an idea of how to use Invicorp safely and effectively. However, they are not exhaustive. Always read the full instructions provided with your medication, and if you’re unsure about any part of the process, speak to your prescriber before use.

1. Clean and Prepare

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

Gather everything you need:

  • Glass ampoule of Invicorp
  • Sterile syringe
  • 23-gauge needle (for drawing up)
  • 30-gauge needle (for injection)

2. Prepare the Ampoule

Gently tap the ampoule to ensure all the liquid is at the bottom.

Carefully snap off the top of the ampoule (using a tissue or ampoule snapper for safety).

Place the opened ampoule on a clean, flat surface.

3. Draw Up the Medication

Attach the 23-gauge (long) needle to the syringe and remove the protective cap.

Insert the needle into the ampoule and draw up all the liquid.

Remove the 23-gauge needle and attach the 30-gauge (short) needle for injection.

4. Prepare for Injection

Wash the injection site on the side of the shaft of your penis with soap and water or an alcohol swab.

Hold the syringe needle-up and gently tap it to move any air bubbles to the top.

Slowly press the plunger until a few drops appear at the needle tip, expelling air from the syringe.

5. Administer Invicorp

Hold the syringe at a 90-degree angle to the side of your penis, avoiding any visible blood vessels.

Insert the needle halfway into the tissue.

Gently push the plunger to inject the medication slowly and steadily.

Remove the needle carefully once the injection is complete.

6. Dispose of Materials Safely

Place the protective cap back on the used needle.

Dispose of the ampoule, syringe, and both needles in a sharps disposal container. Never throw used needles or syringes in household waste.

7. After the Injection

You should notice an erection developing within 5 to 10 minutes.

Do not use Invicorp more than once per day, and no more than three times per week.

Along with their useful effects, most medicines can cause unwanted side effects although not everyone experiences them. The unwanted effects often improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine, but please speak with your doctor or pharmacist if they continue or become troublesome.

Below is a list of the most common and the most serious side effects associated with Invicorp. You will find a full list of possible side effects in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) supplied with your medicine.

Serious side effects

  • Rare: Long lasting and painful erection. Contact your doctor immediately if your erection lasts for longer than 4 hours

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)

  • Flushing of the face and upper part of the body

If you notice any of the following symptoms, contact a doctor immediately:

  • An erection that lasts for more than 4 hours
  • Serious allergic reactions which cause difficulty in breathing or dizziness
  • Skin reactions such as rashes and blistering

Injections may cause a small amount of bleeding at the site of administration. This could increase the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. If you are concerned about this, ask your doctor for advice about ‘safe sex’.

Please tell the prescriber if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. This is because Invicorp can affect the way some medicines work, and some medicines can have an effect on Invicorp. In the event of a medical emergency, you should tell your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse that you have used Invicorp and when you did. Do not use Invicorp with other medicines unless your doctor tells you that you can.

Tell us if you are taking any of the following:

  • Medicines to thin your blood (anticoagulants) such as Warfarin, Heparin, Dabigatran, Rivaroxaban, Apixaban
  • Any other medicines used to treat erection difficulties

Do not use Invicorp:

Warnings & Precautions

Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before using Invicorp:

  • If you suffer from heart or lung problems or have had a stroke (in these cases you should engage in sexual activity with caution)
  • If you have a history of mental illness or addiction

You should not use Invicorp:

  • With any other local or oral treatments for ED
  • If you do not have Erectile Dysfunction
  • If you are a woman, or a male under the age of 18

Erections lasting over four hours can be dangerous. You should report immediately to your doctor or seek immediate medical assistance for any erection that persists for longer than four hours.

Invicorp will not protect you or your partner from sexually transmitted diseases. As you may get a small amount of bleeding at the injection site, it is especially important that you use a condom to avoid sexually transmitted diseases.

Invicorp should not be used by patients with drug addiction, mental illness or intellectual disability.

Mild transient flushing of the face or trunk occurs commonly. In rare cases this is associated with discomfort and abnormal heart beat or rapid pulse. If you experience an abnormal heart beat or a rapid pulse, you should stop using Invicorp.

Storage

Invicorp must be stored in a refrigerator at 2-8°C. Only remove the ampoule you intend to use. It can be allowed to reach room temperature before administration. Once removed from the refrigerator, the ampoule should be used within 24 hours. Do not freeze the ampoules. Always check the expiry date on the outer carton before use.

Driving and using machinery

Invicorp should not affect your ability to drive or use machines, however, if you feel dizzy or faint after using Invicorp you should not drive or use machinery or tools.
