Vitaros Cream contains the active ingredient Alprostadil, which is recommended as a second-line treatment for Erectile Dysfunction after other treatments such as PDE5 inhibitors have been tried.
Alprostadil is a synthetic version of the hormone Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), which occurs naturally in your body. Alprostadil helps treat the symptoms of ED because it is a vasodilator, which means that it widens (dilates) blood vessels. This improves blood flow to the penis, making it easier for you to get an erection.
In contrast to PDE5 inhibitors, the erection occurs whether or not you are sexually aroused. Alprostadil is effective in the majority of men who use it.
Before using Vitaros, you should read the manufacturer’s printed Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) from inside the pack. It will give you more information about Vitaros, including detailed instructions of how to administer it.
Vitaros should be used as needed to achieve an erection. Each Vitaros AccuDoseTM container is for single use only and should be properly discarded after use.
It is recommended to empty the bladder by urinating before administering Vitaros. After removing the cap from the AccuDoseTM container, apply all the contents into the opening at the tip of the penis, 5-30 minutes before intercourse. Please refer to the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with your treatment for detailed step-by-step instructions on administration.
The onset of effect typically occurs within 5 to 30 minutes after application, with the duration of effect lasting approximately 1-2 hours. If your erection lasts for between 2-4 hours, discuss this with your doctor. If it lasts for longer than 4 hours, contact your doctor immediately.
It is important to note that a maximum of one dose can be used within a 24-hour period, and Vitaros must not be used more than 2-3 times per week.
You should not use Vitaros if you are using any other products or taking any other medicines to treat Erectile Dysfunction.
If Vitaros does not help you to get an erection or if your erection does not last long enough for satisfactory sexual intercourse, you should inform your doctor.
If you use more Vitaros than you should, immediately contact the nearest hospital emergency department or your doctor. Using too much Vitaros can increase your risk of scarring to the penis and can cause your erection to last too long which may require treatment by a specialist doctor to reverse the effects.
Along with their useful effects, most medicines can cause unwanted side effects although not everyone experiences them. The unwanted effects often improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine, but please speak with your doctor or pharmacist if they continue or become troublesome.
